LIGHTS, CAMERAS … RELAY FOR A CURE!  Roll out the red carpets, and gather for the premiere that you won’t want to miss!  The San Antonio Relay For Life will hold a kickoff party on Thursday, October 16th at 6:30pm, at the Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club Community Center, located just west of Interstate 75 off State Road 52.  Captains and members of 19 Teams will enter “Hollywood” to start working on the 2009 Relay For Life “Movie Scenes”.  The setting for the 2009 Relay For Life will be the San Antonio City Park, and will run from noon on Saturday, April 18 and ending at 6:00am Sunday April 19th.

The nineteen teams are signed up with each choosing their “movie” that they will be starring in.  Movies chosen to date are: Pasco High School – Pirates of the Caribbean; Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club – South Pacific; Hedman Family & Friends – Million Dollar Baby; St. Anthony Catholic School – Toy Story; PartyLite – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs; Richter Family and Friends - Forrest Gump; St. Anthony Catholic Women Club - Paint Your Wagon, with the other teams still choosing their movie name.  Teams can be of any size, with some having over 12 participants and others having a small number of participants.  Teams set their own fundraising goals.

You won’t want to miss being part of this winning Relay where enormous fun is shared by all as they join American Cancer Society’s grassroots efforts in finding a CURE to cancer.  Anyone interested in joining a team, starting a new team, or learning more about Relay For Life is invited to Thursday’s rally.  Food and drinks will be provided, and the 19 teams will begin fundraising by having chance drawings for prizes, sweets, and other treats.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a family oriented event where participants raise funds to support the American Cancer Society’s Mission in helping others through research, education, advocacy and services. Participants will camp in the park during the event in April, and will take turns walking to raise important funds needed to help find a cure and cancer awareness.  There will be many games and activities throughout the day and night during the Relay For Life, with all proceeds going to ACS.
